I moved to Alaska, with my parents, in 1962. It was the worst thing (at the time) and turned into, by far, the best thing that ever happened to me. But a lot of ground had to be covered between the two. We drove up in an old, very old, pick-up with everything we owned. We homesteaded out in the middle of nowhere and lived in a tent. I learned from my mother that every single situation had a way to get through it. We were hungry, broke, lonely, tired, cold, and somehow she and my dad made sure I had a wonderful childhood. My mother could make a good meal using the strangest things and it aways tasted good. When my dad finally got work we would live seasonaly. Anyone who has worked constuction knows what I mean. We ate well in the summer and "creatively" in the winter. That first year in the tent taught me more about living than I ever thought possible. I'll tell you about that sometime.
What I want to do here is share some of my ways to live well, to shop wisely, save money, never be bored etc. I have some really cool recipes to share with you and some great ways to save money through shopping, cooking and just plain living.
